Triple Bunk Beds

Triple bunk beds are exactly what they seem – beds that sleep three. There are two basic designs. The first has three beds stacked on top of each other, meaning that a room with an unusually high ceiling is needed in order to fit the bed in the room, and for the top bed to be comfortable. A standard triple-decker bed is over 7ft tall and can cost over $1000. One way in which the height of the triple-decker bed can be reduced is for the lowest bunk to be at ground level as in this example from Paul Bunyan shows. Beds such as this will cost in the region of $600 excluding mattresses.

The second design for a triple bunk bed is effectively a small double bed (more often a large twin bed) on the bottom with a single bed on top. The ‘double’ bed will probably be too small for an adult couple to sleep in regularly, but is perfect for a girl’s sleepover, for instance. Prices for these beds vary enormously, but are in the region of $600-$800 for a wooden bed. With this design, you will need a greater amount of floor space as the bed spills out into the room more, but if you need to be able to sleep three and have a low ceiling, this may be the best way of doing it. For families with a small amount of space, this is a perfect answer, so long as the children are happy to share a bed when needed! Searching for a metal triple bunk bed might give better value for money if cost is a primary consideration.

The cost of the mattresses may considerably raise the price of the triple bunk bed, so always budget for this part of the deal too. With a larger mattress on the bottom, there is more frame and mattress than a standard bunk bed, so you will have to pay more for it too. It may not be ideal to sleep three people on the bed regularly, but for occasional nights the 2 level triple bunks could be ideal.
