Metal Bunk Beds, Futons, & Mattress
It is always a tough decision either woods or metal bunk beds. These give a lighter, perhaps more elegant look to the bed, and there are many different styles available. Industrial looks are very popular, and it is easy for manufacturers to paint the frames to increase the appeal to the specific market. For instance, children’s beds area often painted in brighter colors, such as red or yellow, whereas a teenage girl’s bed might be a more elegant white. Metal beds can be more easily produced than wooden ones, and in this respect they offer better value for money. All the various types of bunk beds (futon beds, loft beds etc), are available in metal, and often look more stylish and less obtrusive too. They are mostly available for under $500, a significant saving on the wooden beds at the higher end of the market.
It is unlikely that a mattress will be included with the cost of the bunk bed, but most retailers would advise that you buy the mattress from them at the same time as buying the bed. This is highly advisable, as it means you will be using a mattress that is designed to fit to the bunk bed, which makes the bed safer to use. Like wooden beds, metal bunk beds must conform to the CPSC safety standards of 2001. Ideally, you should only look to buy a new bunk bed to ensure these safety standards are met and that the bed is in good condition.
Metal bunk beds normally requires you less assembly. Beds will be built with less joins and more stylish than regular wood bunk beds. Most companies will probably make cylindrical tubing in order to cut down on potentially dangerous sharp edges. Assembly is normally less complex but still pay extra attention to avoid serious bunk beds injury.
An increasingly popular look is a combination of both metal and wood together. Often the wood is used as for the four vertical corner pieces, whilst the bed structure itself is made from metal and treated with an attractive finish, such as black or aluminum. Together, this gives a classy, comfortable look to the bed, and often at a good price as the majority of the bed is still made from metal.
